Addition & Renovation
Department of Natural Resources & Conservation
Missoula, Montana

The Missoula Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) had multiple divisions spread out in different buildings not only on the DNRC Campus on Spurgin Road, but around the city of Missoula.  The project  co-located three divisions through expansion at the current DNRC Forestry Building.  An additional existing building at the campus was upgraded and renovated for relocation of a currently off-site division. The final project created a more contiguous campus that serves the employees and the public better.

The addition of 8,300 square feet to the Forestry Building was designed to be extremely energy efficient.  The utilization of groundwater heating and cooling systems was central to the criteria required in this project.  Additionally, aesthetic aspects of the project were being incorporated which promote the use of Montana wood products, highlighted by the use of reclaimed logs salvaged from the Blackfoot river.

The existing two-story Forestry building also received some much needed attention and updating. As it was not ADA accessible and lacked space for the needs of a growing department, there were multiple physical building issues to be dealt with, along with the desire to create a uniform look for the addition and the adjacent buildings.

This project was completed in the summer of 2010.
